Vision Digital Culture

The Jesus College Digital Twin Project

Bringing Oxford into the Digital Space

“We can’t wait to launch the twin to the wider world!"

Vision Digital Culture is proud to announce the official launch of a major digital twin project created in collaboration with Jesus College Oxford.

Now publicly accessible through the College website, the project offers an immersive virtual experience designed to widen access to the College for audiences unable to visit in person, while also supporting outreach, engagement, and international visibility through digital technology.

Expanding Access Through Digital Technology

The digital twin enables prospective students, researchers, visitors, and global audiences to explore key academic and historic spaces across the College remotely, using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

The experience combines immersive navigation, guided storytelling, multimedia interpretation, and student-led narration to help visitors engage with the College environment in a more accessible and meaningful way.

Particular attention was given to accessibility and outreach. Integrated multilingual audio functionality allows users to experience student narrations in multiple languages, supporting prospective students for whom English may not be their first language.

As described by the College, the project aims to “bridge the gap between people and place” by enabling audiences to experience Jesus College remotely, at their own pace, and from anywhere in the world.

Creating a Connected Digital Environment

The digital twin spans a range of important academic, residential, and historic environments across the Turl Street site, brought together through a unified navigable model with seamless cross-space movement and guided exploration.

Developed using high-density LiDAR-based spatial capture and advanced 3D modelling workflows, the project was designed to preserve a strong sense of atmosphere, spatial presence, and architectural detail while remaining intuitive and accessible for online audiences.

Interactive features include guided routes, multimedia interpretation, embedded narration, and integrated navigation between College spaces.

Higher Education, Heritage, and Digital Engagement

For Vision Digital Culture, the collaboration reflects the growing role digital twins can play within higher education and heritage environments — not simply as virtual tours, but as long-term platforms for accessibility, communication, interpretation, and digital preservation.

The project also marks an important milestone for Vision Digital Culture as our first collaboration with an Oxbridge college.

We are deeply grateful to the College team for their trust, support, and collaboration throughout the project process. We would especially like to thank Jude Eades and colleagues at Jesus College for their encouragement and vision, as well as alumnus John Jagger for his generous support and introduction, which helped make this collaboration possible.

The digital twin is now live on the College website:

As digital engagement continues to evolve across higher education and cultural sectors, we look forward to supporting further projects that connect physical spaces with wider global audiences.
